Hi everybody! I’m Claire Vachon and I’m a 20 year old photojournalist from Metro Detroit, MI. I have been taking photos for 7 years, and I have found a new interest in news photography, and using journalism to help tell other people’s stories.
It is important to me that people are recognized for the good things they do, and help other be knowledge about some of the bad things that goes on.
As a journalist, it is my job to help people voice their opinions and be respected. Everyones story matters, and it takes a good journalist to uncover the details of everyones story.
Photography is especially important when telling someone’s story because a vast majority of people are visual learners. It’s one thing to write a nice story about someone, but its another to use photography to dive deep into who someone is as a person. It helps the audience connect with the person I am doing a story on.
Visuals are very important when telling a story. They add so much context to a situation that can’t be conveyed with just writing.
It is my goal with this website to use all different mediums to tell stories. This includes writing, photos, videos, audio, etc.
At school, I work at Central Michigan Life, and I am a photography intern for the university.

I am the video editor at CM-Life, so I have taken on a leadership role to help our newsroom dive into more multimedia journalism.
I manage a team of 6 videographers to help us gather as much information as possible in a way that is easily accessable for our college aged audience.
Because college kids are mainly connected via social media, I have been in charge of helping CM-Life connect with our younger audience through social media videos like the one I linked above.
Getting to do this work is very rewarding for me. I have made lots of connections with students on campus who begin to recognize me as “the girl with the camera.” I go to a lot of campus events and talk to a lot of people which is my favorite part of the job.
This semester is going to filled with a lot of stories, and I can’t wait to share them with others.
